LGD spreadsheet exports for states, districts, sub-districts, blocks, villages, village–block mapping, village–Gram Panchayat mapping and PIN-to-village mapping.

Fields we use

  • Official name and LGD code of each administrative unit
  • Parent hierarchy: state, district, sub-district, block and Gram Panchayat
  • Census 2011 village code where the source provides it
  • PIN code associated with a village where the source provides it

How records are matched to places

  • Hierarchy comes directly from the LGD parent codes; it is not inferred from names.
  • Villages that share a name within one district are given distinct URLs, and the Census 2011 code is shown to tell them apart.
  • Village pages without a Census code and without a Gram Panchayat or block are kept out of the sitemap and marked noindex.

How counts are calculated

Counts include active records of each location type that are mapped to their parent unit. Villages without a district are not counted or published.

Known limitations

  • Administrative boundaries and names change; the directory reflects the snapshot that was imported.
  • Some villages appear in the source without a Gram Panchayat, block or Census code.
  • Counts may differ from Census or state government totals.
